The current multimedia device market hosts hundreds of projector types. With wide variations of every aspect resulting in a board price range. As a new buyer, you might be overwhelmed by the numbers of choices you have and to help you, here is a short guide on factors you need to look for when buying a projector.

  1. First step, determine how large your audience and space is
    • Measure how far the furthest seat to the screen is and then divide it by 8. In practice, the furthest distance to the screen is 8 meters. Then the screen width to use will be 8/8 = 1 to 1,5 meters.
    • Commonly, a white matte finished screen is used. But in an outdoor or a lit up room, you should use a grey surfaced screen.
  2. Second, select the right ANSI Lumens
    • More ANSI Lumens means more money. How is it so we don’t spend our money in features we don’t need? Just with a simple math and look back to the screen size and room lighting.
    • If the room is brightened with sunlight, calculate 1900 x 1 meter of screen width to find out the ANSI Lumens strength you need. If a 3 meters of width screen is used, use a 1900 x 3 = 5700 to 6000 ANSI Lumens projector.
    • If the room is dimly lit, use a 1500 x screen width ANSI Lumens projector.
    • For rooms without a lighting control, use a 1200 * screen width size ANSI Lumens strength.
    • For rooms with a lighting control, use a 900 * screen width size ANSI Lumens projector.
  3. Third, find the right spot
    • How far should you put your projector away from the screen? Each projector has what is called a throw width. It determines how far the projector should be away from the screen. If you're using a 3 meters width screen and your projector's throw width is 1.7, then you should mount your projector 1.7 x 3 meters = 5 meters away from the screen. Easy, isn’t it?

I hope the above guides work for you and I hope you enjoy your shopping!
