WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MARBLE AND GRANITE?

Granite is formed deep in the earth's mantle at extremely high temperatures, and is a very hard, resistant stone made of crystallized minerals, primarily quartz, feldspar and mica.  Other minerals may be present in the stone, creating its unique color, textures and patterns.  Granite, as a countertop, is resistant to scratches, acids, stains and heat.  The marble family; marble, limestone, travertine, onyx, start out as sediment and are made up of mostly calcite.  Because of this main component, it can be affected by acids, such as vinegar and citrus.  Due to marble's more porous properties, it is not recommended for kitchens or bar tops, but works beautifully in the bath where the veining and color that appear can be used to create exquisite designs.
