Assure Your Children Internet Safety

by Stuart Perryman
Every day, billions of people access the Internet for a lot of purposes. Age is not a restriction in Internet access. Nowadays, children of various ages know how to access the Internet. Parents still cannot assure the safety of their children even though the Internet is just a virtual community.

A lot of predators and criminals roam the World Wide Web, and children are not safe from them.  Internet safety  for kids  must be reinforced. Everyday, the world of the Internet grows. Concurrent with this is the growing population of Internet criminals and predators who terrorize the world of the Internet. Kids are in danger, and this is not an exaggeration.

A lot of people have been victims of the Internet’s dark side. A few cases are child pornography, cyber-bullying, identity theft, and many more. Aside from these, there are also a myriad of web pages displaying violent, malicious, and pornographic content that are obviously not good for children. To avoid these, child Internet safety software have been released. These programs filter the content that the child may see in the Internet. It detects the malicious contents and prohibits access to it so that the parents can breathe easily.

You can also find some of the Internet safety tips for kids. The Internet is the whole world so be aware that anyone can access it. Never give personal information such as addresses and telephone numbers to anyone whom you do not know.

Never respond to spam messages and e-mails that you think are dangerous or suspicious. Never agree to meet a person whom you don’t know and without the parents’ permission. Don’t believe everything you see in the Internet because not everything is reliable since predators and criminals can lie to you. One person can also create multiple accounts to fool you so be vigilant and never give in to their requests.

A lot of games have been programmed ever since the start of the Computer Age, and not every single game offered in the Internet is safe. Some games are for adults only because they can be violent, pornographic, and malicious. There are always Internet safety games for kids  that can still be enjoyed by children without the possibility of kids being victims of the Internet predators, and without destroying their moral innocence with obscene, violent, and worldly content other games can give.

A kid’s Internet safety cannot be assured if there are no measures given. Parents must be vigilant with the activities of their children in the Internet. Predators and criminals can be everywhere, especially in the World Wide Web. Parents must also be aware of Internet chatting jargons such as MIRL, ATTYOB, ASL, and other acronyms that are used in chat rooms.

However, children would not want their parents behind their backs when they surf or chat. Even so, parents can still be assured that their children are safe with certain technologies that are developed to secure people, especially children , from the dangers the Internet can inflict.
