Vitamins And Pregnant Women
Vitamin intake should increase for pregnant women because they are not only nursing themselves but they are nursing a growing fetus.
Pregnant women should have additional dosage of certain vitamins to ensure the good health of their unborn children. The food that these women eat may not have sufficient nutrients for both mother and child. One cannot too much or too less. That would just be exaggerated and out of place. But if a pregnant woman fails to eat right, it will take a toll on the baby’s weight and nutrition. So, if one can not consume the right amounts of food because they do not have the means to do so, then supplements are prescribed. They should also know what type of food to eat and which ones to avoid. For starting mothers, they have to get a lot of information regarding pregnancy and that includes food and vitamin intake.
Pregnant women have a higher need for supplements compared to other women. There are particular vitamins that they should have increased dosages of for the development of the fetus. These are Vitamin A necessary for bone growth, Vitamin C for the prevention of scurvy, Vitamin B12 for strengthening immunity, Vitamin B6 for brain development as well as it is needed for the body’s metabolism and lastly, Folic Acid as it helps in the generation of brain cells and other fetal organs. It is important that the mother have these in right amounts as the excess or the lack of it can have dangerous effects on the baby.
A lot of mothers turn to solgar vitamins as these are recommended. But whatever you may have in your home, make sure that you have consulted your doctor about them. If you haven’t, it is necessary that you go to your obstetrician to seek advice. The information that they are going to give helps in the correct growth of the fetus. The unborn child needs the proper nutrients to develop accurately. We are talking about avoiding deformities, mental retardation, malnutrition, and other abnormalities that a baby can have just because the mother was not given proper care, supplements, and medication.
In our daily diet, we may not have the nutrients mentioned above because we have limited food choice and there are certain foods that a pregnant woman can not eat. Our bodies also, do not manufacture certain types of vitamin that are needed for pregnancy so additional supplements are taken. Before we even take a vitamin supplement , as parents, we should make sure that we are getting the best. Quality should not be taken for granted in these cases. We should not make our baby suffer for a low quality supplement.
Now we know where to find information and what to look for. The question now is where can we find them? Aside from your local drugstore, you can find supplements sold online like solgar. Whatever it is, be sure that you don’t take away quality. If you have found something on the internet that interests you a lot, make sure that you’ll have a little talk with your doctor about it.
