You may be less than confident in spelling and in your use of grammar (and it's unwise to rely on spelling and grammar checkers). Perhaps you know what you want to say but find it difficult to put it into words. A copy editor will be sufficiently detached from the writing process to spot mistakes and inconsistencies that would distract the reader.
Above all, a copy editor can add a professional finish to your work that will make it a cut above the rest, irrespective of which of the above categories you fit.
It is also important that your customers or clients feel that they are getting value for money – publishing poorly edited copy (or copy that has not been edited at all) could reflect extremely badly on you and/or your organization. If the text is about something that could potentially harm someone – say, medical or DIY instructions – it would be extremely foolhardy to allow the copy to be released to the public without it first being checked by an editor.Even illustrations are important. Many users today, are communicating on an International level; being picky about "english" can be a costly mistake.
