Every website, blog and affiliate program has the same goals in mind. To be able to get traffic to them. Because without traffic, there can be no profits. It is next to impossible to make money on any online business with out it. That is a fact that should not be taken lightly by entrepreneur. The goal for the business then should be to maximize traffic to our sites.
Beyond creating the business, the smart business person is promoting the business, no matter what it is every day. A steady stream of traffic is necessary to push our profit margins in an upward climb. Our traffic reports or statistics are the measure of our success to promote our niche, no matter what it is. It is this report that enables us to make the adjustments needed to get more profit.
Where to begin? The first step is to find the location of your report. Your web host should provide some level of stats for you. I chose my host partly on the quality and the amount of information that is provided in my traffic stats. If your host does not provide this information, then there is software that you can add. I find for me, that it is far easier to have this report available within my site administration features.
Here‘s what you should find:

Squidoo has an excellent system for reporting on their lenses. It is actually one of my favorites. It gives a dashboard with real time information that enables you to make adjustments easily and quickly. It also advises you which lenses are needing some attention . They are really on the ball, especially for a free program.
Alexa (just type the name in your browser) is another program that gives accurate information on your progress. There are trends that show you which direction your traffic is heading. It also shows the number of active links. A great tool to see if all of your links are performing as they are listed.
You should be actively checking your reports at least monthly. The best time to do it is either at the beginning or the end of the month.
