Five ways to conserve energy while keeping cool this summer
Keeping yourself and your food cool at home could really be a costly task this summer. Here are five quick tips to help keep sum of that money for other things.
1. Air conditioners provide clean fresh air due to filters placed in the path of cool air flowing out. These filters become dirty from time to time, especially during times of heavy use. If you clean or replace these filters let’s say, every other week it could save you energy pennies.
2. The condensers are another important part of the air conditioner which helps to provides the cooling effect. The appliance can be made more efficient if you keep debris such as leaves away from the central air exterior condenser and keep the condenser coils clean.
3. A microwave uses much less energy than your full size oven. It also expends less heat to the room, so it is better to use your microwave oven where possible in place of your big oven. It saves energy in more than one way because your air conditioner will have less work to do.
4. Instead of putting on insulating clothes to neutralise the chilli cooling effect from your AC, it is best to turn it down by a few degrees think how much that could save you.
5. The refrigerator runs nice in cool temperatures, but if the coils are not clean the motor will run longer causing more energy to be used up. Cleaning with an appliance brush won’t only save energy but it adds life to your refrigerator.

Great tips
Also I have an attic fan and it works great when it isn't 95 out and it circulates the air and cools really well. Before we had air it really did do a great job. Only cost about 200.00 to buy and installing ourselves was easy.

I don't know but I have heard of people who plug out their refrigerators at night when it is less likely to be used. Things will stay cool as long as it isn't opened often. The danger with that is if you forget to plug it in back then you might lose some stuff. I would think a frozen gallon bottle some where in the bottom of the fridge could help out in the night as well if you unplug it.

Here's a tip for those of us without AC for our houses/Apartments... and it works... Place a 1 gallon frozen water (Milk) jug in front of your fan and it will blow cool air for you for hours... keep a few milk jugs the one gallon plastic kind in the freezer and the bottom of your refrigerator and that will keep the freezer and frig at an even temp when you are low on groceries or frozen foods! it is also a safe source of drinking water in an emergency...

Another tip keep the fan on. Fans help circulate the air and keep the temperate moderate. Your AC unit will not need to run as much to maintain the temp.
