Attitudes

You know we go on about positive thinking, having a positive mental attitude, setting goals and being a success. BUT I think all of that is a waste of time and effort, if we don't have the right Attitude. The great American Motivator and author of one of the top selling books on motivation "See You at the top" Mr. Zig Ziglar calls is Stinking Thinking which causes hardening of the Attitudes. We have to get our attitudes right and in line with our goals and quests for success.

We need to take a good look at how we think about life and what we are trying to achieve. Do we continually put others down for what they believe? Do we ever have negative comments about our peers? If so then we must get rid of them. What are you like in the morning? Are you like a bear with a sore head? Or do you bounce out of bed ready for the day ahead. Most of us hear the clock go off and think and often say to ourselves, is it morning already, Do I have to get up? Who invented morning? Or Good god it’s morning instead of saying good morning God. Some of us are even tempted to throw the clock at the cat.

Attitude has everything to do with the way we look at the day ahead, how can we go about our goals, positive thoughts etc if we are always in a bad mood or our thinking is to put it mildly Stinking thinking. Do we look at the day ahead and say to ourselves? "another great opportunity for me”. I have a whole day to achieve what I want, or do you start Crabbing about it? It’s too cold, too hot, I'm too tired etc. Yes a good percentage of us do the latter.

If we are to succeed I feel we must change our thinking and our attitude. We need to look at everything as a gift, even the mornings. If we look at them as an opportunity, we will very soon find that each day is just that. But I also realize that it may not be that easy to change after all we may have had a stinking attitude all our lives and it is very easy to just go with the flow and be like a lot of our peers.

Changing who we associate with can have a tremendous effect on the way we think. If we continue to surround ourselves with negative people we will continue to be negative and our thinking will almost always stink. What happens if we get to spend time in the presence of a positive people, yes we feel uplifted and the whole world seems to be different, Guess what, it is different when we look through the eyes of a positive attitude.

So doesn't it make sense to associate with these kinds of people? Ok I am not suggesting that we axe our long-time friends if they are negative in the way they act and think. NO, but at least we should limit the time we spend with them, do you know what happens when you cultivate positive thinking friends? We attract more people like that. Ralph Waldo Emerson said. “As a man thinks so is he" so it stands to reason if we want to be a positive person with a healthy attitude then we need to act and think like one. When the alarm clock goes off in the morning (Zig Ziglar calls it the opportunity clock) don't greet if with negative thoughts and actions.

The moment it goes off hit the floor; you might not like it the first few times, but you will be up and ready to start the day. In a very short time you will not mind at all, you will start to cultivate that positive mental attitude. You may in fact find that your old friends "the negative ones" will start to stay away. They will most likely wonder what has happened to you, here they are moaning about the weather, the price of petrol etc and some nut head tells them that they are wonderful and getting better. It will unnerve them like you would never know.

What sort of message do you have on your telephone answering machine?

If it spells out doom and depression, change it, and when you answer it, answer it with a smile in you voice no matter who is at the end of the line. Go about your daily activities with a smile on your face and in your voice, because when you smile you feel good, it is impossible to stay sad, angry, or negative when you smile, and you never know who out there that could use a smile from to time. It is said that there is never a poorer person who does not even have a smile to give away.

Footnote:

I have met many people in my life that have to say the least a rotten attitude towards other people and themselves, going nowhere fast. However I am happy to say that very one that has change their out look in life are all much better of for it.

The person who had a bossy and over powering attitude to other people and themselves seldom do well In life. People are not fools and can very quickly see through them. And then what are they left with, you got it right, no very much.
