Can you make people successful?

by Lawrence Tam

So what does a ball and chain image mean to you? Some might say it's the attachment to something that you can't break free of. Others might think it's something that is holding you back.

Well, the ball and chain in the MLM world is something or "someone" holding you back from breaking free. So how does someone in particular hold you back?

1) Someone tells you something that breaks your motivation or self esteem. Pretty much stabs you in the heart

2) Someone you sponsor is excited to work yet doesn't really want to work.

Let me touch more on #2. So you sponsor someone that is all gung ho about doing the business. Then you realize they don't treat it like a business but more like a part time hobby. This puts you in a situation in that you put up all this upfront investment in time and resources for a distributor that won't even distribute. So you continue to work at it holding their hand helping them get paid. Of course you get paid but at what cost? The time you hand held this distributor could have been better served with other distributors in training or support. Your essentially working for your distributor when they should be pulling their own weight. A healthy downline is one where they can do exactly what you do. Sell products and sponsor more people who want to do the same.

If your downline person doesn't do the work and you have to pull them through the mud to get them to work do you really think that will motivate them to work on their own? Why should they? They have a upline associate willing to bend over backwards to make them money.

This is especially dangerous to new potential associates. If they see you dragging multiple associates in hopes of getting a commission check and in the end some residual out of it they will not want to join. Why? Who wants to copy their manager in dragging their downline to success. The better picture is to lead by example and let the lazy people fall out and the real distributors turn into leaders. If you make it seem like a lot of work people will not want to take that on. Everyone is busy when they take on a small side business. There is no need to make the side business harder than it is. You can guide someone to success but carrying them will not help either of you in the long run.
