How to Get Focused and Stay Motivated while Getting Important Things Done.

Have you ever read a book, listened to some advice, or maybe went to a seminar and left all hyped and raring to go – only to be right back where you started lonely, unfocused, unmotivated and just plain confused a few weeks later?

Well I have… for the past 20 years I’ve read so many books, listened to many audio recordings and went to tons of seminars and was truly motivated and excited only to loose it all in a week or so… why is that?

Well we were in an environment that put us in that motivated state for just a short period of time but this is totally negated shortly after we get back home to reality. So simply getting out of the environment that motivated us is a problem in itself. Then the solution should be simple… find a way to stay in a similar environment as much as possible.

Some people try to do just that by reading books and listening to audio on a regular or even daily basis but usually somehow they get out of that in a few months or so down the road.

So let me tell you what helped me (for what I thought was) once and for all… a support group. A group where all members had similar goals (usually to improve themselves), and communicated on a regular ongoing basis.

To illustrate, support can come in many forms. Churches give members spiritual support. Gyms give members physical and sometimes emotional support.

As you can guess (or probably know from first hand knowledge)… this worked for a while until I got tired of keeping up with the time it took to read and make posts… then I started getting further and further behind until one day I simply stopped logging on to the support group.

I miss the good stuff but I sure don’t miss the headache of the long hours it took trying to keep up. Then I thought there must be a better way… It took some years but I finally found it… a structured support group. A group where you can:

Get mentally motivated on a regular basis but in a structured way so that you’re not overwhelmed (or bored).

  1. Get one or several partners or a support team. Persons must be compatible with each other and each must desire to vigilantly remind, hold accountable and otherwise help each other stay focused and on target.
  2. This group must be monitored by someone (a coach) who will make sure all members are participating and to help solve challenges before they snowball into full fledged problems.

A coach? Why would a coach be needed? The real question should be why not have a coach? All athletes and successful business owners have coaches or mentors to help guide them to success shouldn’t you?

You or your group need a professional to keep you focused especially when things get tough. But what if you or your group can’t pay for the services of a coach right Now? Well there are several ways to go around that.

    1. Join a Mastermind support group: A support group of like minded people is a good way to start. Groups range from FREE to the best peaking out at about $500 per month. The average is about $100 per month. Being in a group is like sharing the coach’s fee with the other members.
    2. If that’s too pricy for you then you can join a support club. They are around $20 -$50 per month. You don’t have individual help from a coach but a coach usually overseas it all.
    3. If that’s still too pricy then you can join a basic group for as little as $10 per month. But you will have to supplement it with books, audio and seminars (though far less often than you would need to without the group).
    4. Even go for a FREE group, but good FREE ones are hard to find so you have to do quite a bit of searching in order to find the golden nugget.

How can you tell which ones are good? Well the good one offer a few of the following while the great ones offer practically all of the following and start from the ground up… They:

  1. … should have an extremely supportive environment with like minded people.
  2. … should be easy to use, meet on a regular basis and not take up too much of your time.
  3. … must offer you some sort of assessment at the beginning to get an idea of where you are now. A great one would offer either one or a series of assessments to get an idea of where you were, where you are and where you want to be and should also offer regular assessments to chart your improvements.
  4. … should also assess your personality type and teach you what type you are compatible with, how to spot the different personality types and how to motivate each type.
  5. … should know precisely how to motivate and communicate with you (based on your assesment).
  6. … should start from the basics, your beliefs. Most people don’t know that they have un-supporting beliefs which have been seriously sabotaging them for years in many ways. A great group should be able to help you identify and replace un-supporting beliefs.
  7. … should also teach you how to communicateeffectively with yourself first, then with others eventually.
  8. … should identify key yet simple actions you should take on a daily basis.
  9. … should help you put your total plan together.
  10. … should be structured so that each member should be held accountable for each others improvement.

During, and after the experience you will get a deeper understanding and appreciation of self. Which is a necessary step on the path to enlightenment, (what some call happiness).

It will be hard to find one place with all 10 ways to truly offer support to you and the more that is offered the pricier it gets but before you get stuck on price… just imagine being motivated and on point pretty much all the time… think how unstoppable you would be… how much more you could accomplish and how much richer your life would be. That all translates to a brighter more desirable future. How much is that worth to you?

Well if you are on a tight budget and a low priced service doesn’t offer all you need you can turn to books or systems to help supplement your needs, depending on what your immediate needs are.

In the end, the support group must be rewarding no matter the cost. What can you expect from such types of groups? If it’s done right in the first 90 days you should see increased performance in many areas of your life.
