MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) Isn't Our ONLY Problem
We have talked recently about MRSA or Methicillin Resistant Staphyloccus Aureus and how dangerous it is. It is most commonly found in hospitals and nursing homes and among older, sicker people. However, it is being seen in even young people who are not supposed to be ill. (See friend Chuck's blog at http://www.apsense.com/article/112504.html).
An article from the UK points out that we also have VRSA (Vancomycin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) and now, at least in the UK, there have been several cases of GISA, or glycopeptide intermediate Staphylococcus aureus. This is an intermediate form of S. Aureus, between MRSA and VRSA. It's "claim to fame" is that it has developed resistance to the Vancomycin type of antibiotics, the only antibiotic type previously active against MRSA. While this is reported in the UK, it remains to be seen how it will play out in the US.
The article also is a very good review of the overall problem, how it has come about and the future potential it is causing. Read the whole article here:

They close their article with this observation:
In the long run, many experts suggest it may take a breakthrough akin to the discovery of penicillin before humans can regain a temporary upper hand over the bugs again.
It may just be that my friend Arthur Fierro, DC, the nutrition expert has put together just such a breakthrough discovery!
