By default, Windows 2000 disables the [Num Lock] key in the Default User profile. This means that whenever a new user logs on to a computer, the [Num Lock] key is off. If you want to enable the [Num Lock] key for new users, you can do so by modifying the Default User profile in the registry. To do so, begin by opening Registry Editor. Next, access the HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard key. Double-click on the InitialKeyboardIndicators value and in the String text box, type 2. Click OK to save your change. The [Num Lock] key will now be on for each new user who logs on to the computer.
