Hosting that sucks

Currently my sites are hosted with 5 different hosting companies.

I have been through many more over the years.  Some of them are just a real pain in the you know what.

I had one promise unlimited bandwidth, then when the bandwidth went over what they found to be acceptable they tired to push a $150/mo dedicated hosting account onto me.  This was bad but not as bad as the year before when twice they had just decided to close my website down because it was using up to much CPU.  They charged me $100 each time to restart the service which really at the time is extortion because you have no choice.  What they did this time is they slowed my site down and stopped all images from showing up on it.  I had had enough and moved the domain to another server.  I unfortunately had bought 2 years in advance with them so I ended up keeping a couple of domains on them.

Another horror story was that I had hosting with a small company, when it came time to renew my domains I filled out the form sent them payment.  To my surprise they hadn't renewed the domains and I was not able to get them back.  Because the domain names were in the owner of the hosting companies name I had no option to watch as they expired and my year of promoting them just go to waste.  Of course they were quickly bought up and had ad sites placed on them.  This was by far my worst experience.

My latest horror story is another hosting company that complained when I started using their imagemagick script that was installed on their server.  They allowed the shared hosting accounts to use it and so I did.  Then they complained to me that I used too much resources and forced me to move to a VPS hosting.  The VPS was 5 times as much as the regular hosting I was getting.  The VPS hosting read the PHP code differently and I found that my scripts didn't work properly, then my mySQL database that they had moved was corrupted and keep getting corrupted so I lost all the data and use of it.  Then my site kept going down, so between the move that took 2 weeks they cost me half of the unique visitors to the site which I have never been able to recover.  Now I am having a problem with php mail command sending everything emails out as spam.  This has been a problem since they moved me and once again they won't do anything about it.  Given that I cannot take anymore downtime and I had to prepay the year in advance I am still with this junk company.

I had another hosting company that I still belong with that I transferred a domain to.  They totally messed up my NS and told me to point to a wrong one.  When they finally responded to my questions about why my site was down and they were able to fix the problem I had been with them for a week and I could no longer get a refund.  This sucked and I ended up staying with them even though they had cost me most of the visitors to the domain I had transferred. 

I am using have 2 other hosting companies that are great, no problem no complaints, I guess 2 out of 5 isn't bad lol.
