Hi, I want to help anyone that want help and you can learn from my major Oops!

I was copying all of my QuickBooks Pro 2005 info onto a cd which already had almost 3 years of info stored on it from having an eBay store to save for the up coming tax season then 2006 and I know you are suppose to alternate cd's for saving info onto but I didn't, which I now do and my son has even installed an external hard drive so if the computer goes all the saved info will still be on there. Well while copying the info onto the cd the computer shortered out and fried (one of the grounding clips to the motherboard, I was told) somehow had broken off and fried it and all the info on the disc I already had saved went with it (my sweet son, since he thinks he was the one that broke the grounding clip but really didn't think it needed them all, yes it does) anyway he rebuilt everything and installed Windows Vista for me as well(one more thing I needed to learn how it works(just a bit different than the other computers we had, but it didn't take long, but by now I was definitely on overload). Well it took me nearly 6 months of retrieving all the info that I could (and a near nervous breakdown, not really but my head started itching so nervous something) but it took me all of the 6 month to the day of the tax extension had to be filed, but I finally retrieved all the info I could and (had a friend that's an accountant filed my taxes), I just couldn't do it anymore.

This is my story on what I did and how I started to do it for retrieving all the info I lost;

First I started to download all my files from day 1 from PayPal, they do not archive their transaction like so many banks do so you can download files that go directly into the QuickBooks Pro 2007 version, well I went back and retrieved 3 yrs worth. I entered all the bank transactions from money orders and Postage by hand but not to many send them so that didn't take more than a few day(all the while listing new items and shipping and still operating my ebay store)

But them it came down to the I don't know how many 100’s items in inventory items I sold and had in stock that needed to be put in there either one at a time or I could map an excel file and it would import it, so not even knowing what I was talking about or doing and not willing to pay more money after paying what I did for QuickBooks Pro 2007 (their tech support doesn't include mapping an excel file), but I knew I how to copy and paste to and excel spreadsheet and that was it. From my wholesalers (who also keep a history of purchases) I copy and pasted lots of excel files. Then with months of trial and error I final got one to import correctly, yeah! And after that it just took time to put the header on my files in and this will also make entering my inventory for the future so much less time consuming so I would be happy to share the info to any that to anyone at APSence. Depending on how much you already know. For some of you it may take more space than this space will hold then contact me and we will work out a way to better communicate the rest.

I would be happy to share with you what I learned. I can answer you on this type of forum if it is just the header names to the excel spreadsheet (and you know what the heck I am even talking about), a year ago I would not have had a clue, but for more details than that contact me so I can get back to you, it may take more space than I can fit in this way. I will try and print in out in a step one step 2 format in case any one wants more info and e-mail it to you.

Let me know if you would like to know what I learned how to do? Eileen
