The Mighty Pumpkin ~ YUM!
The Mighty Pumpkin
This is one of the most healthy and fun foods !! Not only are these fruits wonderful carved, painted, or used as a centerpiece, but they also pack a powerful punch when it comes to good health. Mmmmm, Mmmmmm, good eatin' !
A cup of cooked fresh pumpkin provides 564 mg of potassium, which is good for lowering blood pressure and a whopping 5,135 mcg of beta-carotene, which protects against prostate cancer. Try some of these at home tips to get more from your orange colored gourd! :)
IN THE KITCHEN Pumpkin wedges are extremely yummy!! Just brush the wedges with olive oil and roast them until tender. While they are warm, drizzle with a little Honey or fresh squeezed orange juice and ground cardamom ! I like mine with Real Maple syrup and cinnamon :) This makes the house smell delicious as well (added bonus). If you have organic canned pumpkin, it provides even more nutrients than the fresh because it is condensed and can be easily folded into batters, smoothies, casseroles, sauces and even soup ! Oh yes!! Pumpkin soup is absolutely deeee-lish and it has those incredible added benefits as well !! Try some rich pumpkin seed oil for dipping breads or swirled into soups. Of course there is always my favorite part of the pumpkin...the seeds !! I love these tossed into a green salad or even in pasta dishes, but the best is just tossing them into my mouth for a quick snack ! Might I also mention that seeds are a good source of those healthy Omega-3's. An added bonus in a tasty treat!
In the Bath It might seem hard to believe that this fruity gourd is helpful in the bath, but it is ! There is an incredible recipe for a pumpkin body mask....yummy! This is WONDERFUL if you have the time. Mix together...1/2 c. canned pumpkin or fresh, 3/4c. heavy cream, 4 T. cornmeal, and 2 T honey to form a paste. Although it smells wonderful, don't eat it --Cover yourself in it neck to toe using light strokes, wrap yourself in some snuggly cotton (no it won't stain) and take a 10 minute nap !! Rinse off in a warm shower, pat dry, and mosturize. BEAUTIFUL and RELAXING!
In The Bedroom Yes, you read that right~! So, ummm, honey, let's go bake some pie !! wooHooo!! The pumpkin pie aroma is said to enhance the bedroom. So, light up some pie scented soy candles or even better, bake a real pumpkin pie (save some for dessert later *hee hee*). You can even add the spices to satches for your bedroom and just breathe in the wonderful homey aroma.
Well, I hope that you will take advantage of some of the benefits of PUMPKIN this harvest season!!
ENJOY !!
