Have you used free hosting for a website either to test the market or to save money? Most of us in the course of our business have at least tested the waters with the free services. Here are some thin gs to consider if you have any sites that are still at the free web host services.

 

#1 Free Websites lack Credibility-Could you deal with a business that could not afford $7.95 a month for a site? How could you trust anyone running a business where you knew that there was nothing to back it up? If they could not afford that minimal expenditure,  how could they handle inventory. If you want to apply for affiliate programs, you may be turned down

#2 Banner Advertising on Every Page- You have to know that nothing comes really free. The host makes up the money with advertising space. Those banner placements are generally at the top of everyone of your pages. It may hamper your ability to gain a high ranking at the search engines.

#3 That Long Address-  It markes your site as exactly what it is. It is hard to remember . Not too many people will type that long address vs a much shorter one as a dotcom with your name.

#4 Hardly any Features You will be restricted at most of these services. Amount of space you get is just the beginning. The basic features that you need to conduct business will not be available. The tools to create good content will be lacking. Your ecommerce services will not be available.

#5 Slow Loading Pages Most of these services load their pages very slowly. That 10 second margin  that you have to catch anyone will be lost to you and they will move on.  The reason that people fail to complete an order is slow loading pages, so you are apt to lose business. That is providing you are able to get a customer to that place.

#6 Customer Service- Generally not there ! Site down, too bad !

# 7 They all Look alike Most of these sites have limited templates. See one, see them all. Generally thye only thing you can change is the template color and that is very limited as well.

# 8 Limited ability to affect Search Engines placement Things like keywords and meta tags are very limited if they exsist at all. These sites do not place well.

The bottom line is as always, you get what you pay for. Register your domain name and pay for a good hosting service. There are planty of domain services that are under $10 a year. You can get hosting services for $10 a month. Put your business on the track for success !
