Tips for Website Promotion

by Ginny H. Boutique Owner

Creating a website to place your affiliate links is a good and useful thing.  Without working to bring traffic to the site though, it's almost completely useless.  So here are just a few tips for increasing the popularity of that website.

1) Domain name and ad-free hosting.  It might seem pricey but there are so many free websites out there with ads from the hosting company and subdomains (or worse, lengthy urls).  The chance of yours being found amongst the pile of them out there are slim.  Once it is found, the chance of them staying on there when they see the URL is even slimmer.

2) Don't put all your ads on one page.  It takes a long time to load and it makes your site look cluttered.  You want to make it easy for people to find the affiliate they would be interested in.

3) Clean and Professional Design.  Do not go with a layout that is overly complex.  The layout should look good but it should also be easy for your viewer to navigate.

4) Update!  Don't let your website just sit after you have created it.  It's not going to get anywhere that way and weeks later people are going to wonder if you still care about the site.

I would but it's under construction and not yet released ^^. In the past though I have made other websites that were not business sites but more just personal.

Hi Ginny,
Your article is right on target! Surf programs that I have found are great for finding different sites to review. Check out how they have put it together, how the navigation works and what you like, you can put on your own site. As for making any money or getting visitors to your site, most of the Surf sites are a waste of time in that aspect. If it takes 20 seconds per page before you get a credit, that means that you will only see three sites per minute. If your surf to view ratio is even 2:1, you will spend ten minutes looking at other sites before you get five clicks on yours.
One of the other options are Safelists where you subscribe to a mailing list and get to send out ads or info emails to part or all of the list and as a result, you receive quite a few emails yourself. When used well, safelists can bring a steady flow of interested visitors, not just someone that has to look at your site for 20 seconds.
A third option is building your own mailing list by giving something away. This approach has probably been my main focus in the last two years. With all the Giveaways going on this time of year, it is easy to find a place where you can put up a product, template or ebook as a gift in exchange for the visitor subscribing to your mailing list. While some of them create throw away email addresses to just get the freebies, there are quite a few that will actually give you their email AND buy what is on your 'Squeeze Page'. If you need templates for your Squeeze page(s), you can always let me know, I currently have several styles available. Some with Audio, Video and even the One Time Offer styles. They are not listed on my site yet, but they will be by the end of this week. Right now I am heavily involved in running a giveaway event with my partner. (Which we have added over 1000 emails to our list in less than a week from!)
