The following list consist the steps you need to take in order to optimize your blog post for search engines.

1) The first thing you need to do is to decide what you would like to write about.
2) Use the Overture keyword selector tool to choose which keywords you want to use, depending on the topic of your blog post. I would suggest that you bookmark this page.
3) When you are looking for keywords that you think you might want to use, do not start at the top of the page. The higher the keywords are ranked (how many hits they have), the more difficult it will be to get your post on the first page of Google when someone types in those keywords. So, look further down the page.
4) The next thing you should do, after you have chosen the keywords you think you might want to use is to go to Google and input the keywords you want to use for your blog posts. Check out the sites in order to see how often the keywords or variants of the keywords come up in the header and within the body of the article. This is a very important step because this will determine how often you use your chosen keywords and variants of those chosen keywords to end up on top of the sites you have viewed through Google.
5) All you have to do now is to write you blog post.

Note: It should be noted that even after you do all this you may still not end up on the first page of Google depending on how optimized the other sites are for the search engine optimization keywords you chose, especially if those sites have a much higher page ranking than yours, but ending up on the second page is not bad either. Also, it might take as long as a week for your post to show up on Google, so be patient. The end result is still the same--free traffic to your blog.
