Your company, even if it is a party of one, must from the early stages, act like a big business. That means that you must think and act like a big business, though on a smaller level. This way when your time comes, you have all your ducks lined up and are ready to take your place in the business world. If you act like big business, you will achieve what you have in your heart. If you think small, you will stay in the place that you have created for yourself.
Creating your mission statement, is the first step in your business plan. A mission statement can be just a simple statement that defines who you are and what your goals are. It can also be a paragraph or a bullet list It should always be in fronnt of you and your employees if you have any. It should be in your advertising, on your social network pages and anywhere you are seen. I have also seen it effectively used in brochures, on business cards and on stationary.
Remember, this is a broad statement about your business.
Define your theme-It should be easy to understand and not controvertial. For example, Disney is all about fun. And that is thier mission statement, "to make people happy"
Focus on the good points of your product or service.
Create a challenge for yourself, your product or service. Boeing statement reads, Boeing – "To push the leading edge of aviation, taking huge challenges doing what others cannot do"
Here are some concepts to consider for your statement
The moral/ethical position of the enterprise
The desired public image
The key strategic influence for the business
A description of the target market
A description of the products/services
The geographic domain
Expectations of growth and profitability
Get branded-Get going- create your mission statement and use it wherever you can. You will become more motivated and determined. You will take a step towards making your company real, both in your eyes, and the eyes of the world.
