How To Transition From a W-2 to a 1099 With Direct Selling/Network Marketing

"Fortune Magazine" states -- "Forget the paycheck; your W-2 days are over. It's a 1099 world now."

What a profound statement! The fact of the matter is with corporate downsizing and outsourcing, no employer offers the job security our parents and grandparents enjoyed years ago. All of our lives we have been told to go to college and get a good job. Well, we've gone to college and many have acquired good jobs, but jobs are here today and gone tomorrow. Enron and others is a good example of that.

We need to take a more proactive stance on acquiring enough income now so that we can enjoy our retirement years or if we want, retire early. Let's face it -- how many of us really want to work until 65? I know I don't! Currently I am trapped and must continue working -- I am in an endless cycle and there is no financial freedom in sight. If I stop working now, I have no income. Too young to receive Social Security, and tapping into retirement funds would be detrimental -- the penalties are too great to cash in now. So what to do? Find a company where I will be able to enjoy "Residual Income." Yes, residual income -- and guess what? The direct selling model offers residual income! Forget the misconception that Direct Selling is a pyramid scheme. Direct Selling is selling by word of mouth. We refer to people everyday and don't even realize it. What was the last movie you saw? Did you like it? Did you suggest to a friend "hey I saw "The Devil Wears Prada" -- if you have not seen it yet, it was great and definitely a must see". Do you know just that little comment was a referral and by the way if your friend goes to see the movie, you do not get any monetary referral fee!

Direct Sellers (aka Consultants, Independent Business Owners) use the products or services they sell to family, friends and potential customers and also recommend they join the business. I cannot think of a better testament than to use the products or services you are selling. I use the products or services I promote. In fact, it is really a no-brainer -- using Lavender Love as an example. My sister loves lavender. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mind taking her money, and even told her that, but I told my sister, Linda, since you like the products, why not be your best customer? It's a "ready made" business, complete with products, services, policies and procedures and training -- all at a fraction of the investment for standard franchise or traditional start-up business."

Direct Selling without a doubt has "mass appeal and unlimited possibilities" and you can be a direct seller for multiple companies.

The first step for transition from a W-2 to a 1099 with Direct Selling/Network Marketing is to identify which company you would be proud to be affiliated and represent. The beauty of direct selling/network marketing is this is something that you can do at your own pace, you set your own hours and quite frankly it is an excellent way to augment your current income. You do not have to quit your current job, but if you're making the big bucks in direct selling and decide to quit, that's an option. It's nice to have options!
