I’ve taken a little un-planned sabbatical from the blogosphere – but don’t worry, there is nothing wrong in Bootstrap land.  I’ve just had a busy personal and work schedule that has kept me occupied.  To celebrate my first post in over a month, I thought I’d keep it on the lighter side.  If you want heavier news, it won’t be hard to find in the mainstream financial press.

Therefore, I give you:

10 Things to Love About the Bear Market:

10) I’ve heard that “70 is the new 60…” which is great, because that’s how long we will have to work in order to retire.

9) You can finally stop eyeing the Cadillac CTS – I mean you can’t afford it, but GM will be bankrupt anyway.

8) It is so much easier to read your 401K statements now that all those extra digits are gone.

7) “If you find a vocation that you love, you will never work another day in your life” which is lucky, because you will be working every day for the rest of your life.

6) Now that we don’t have any material wealth, we can focus on the things that are really important in life: friends, family and community.  You know, the free stuff.

5) Sell your car – you won’t be able to afford the gas anyway and you can pat yourself on the back for being “green”

4) We’ll all be incredibly well informed on our next presidential race – we can’t afford to go out for cocktails anymore, so we all got to watch the debates.

3) We all know how to spell “Apocalypse” now.

2) We finally know what acronyms like CDO, MBS, CDS stand for.

And #1, from Professor Bruce Greenwald, director of the Heilbrunn Center for Graham & Dodd Investing at Columbia Business School. "There are no bad days in the market… When the market is down, you've got bargains, and it's lovely to think of what you are buying at low prices. When the market is up, the bargains have gone, but you're rich."

Happy bargain hunting!
