10 Questions Which You Must Ask Before Choosing A Rehab Center

by Rohit Thakur Author
Choosing a drug or alcohol rehab program requires thoughtful consideration. There is no one-size-fits-all formula when it comes to choosing a rehab facility. Asking the right questions can help you find a treatment program that best fits the needs of your loved one. Here are 10 key questions which can help you choose the right rehab center.

Millions of people enter drug and alcohol rehabs and fail to recover. Though rehab is a must for an addict, majority of the patients have relapsed after they went home. Around ten percent of the patients have been to rehab 5 times and more.
This makes it important for you to choose a center wisely and carefully for your loved one. To help you choose the right rehabilitation service, here are ten questions which you should ask before finalizing a facility.

1. Are the rehab programs personalized to each client’s needs?

Treatment programs for drug and alcohol rehab vary from center to center. There are many different types of treatment methods available, but the most effective are those which offer individualized treatment based on the specific needs of the patient.

2. Is the program short-term or long-term?

Most rehab programs are 28-days long which is not sufficient. Depending on the severity of the addiction, a person may need a short or long-term program to achieve lasting results. Most people need at least 90 days to recover fairly well.

3. Does the treatment involve the use of other addictive or harmful drugs?

Some medicines used in the treatment are themselves addictive or harmful causing and sometimes fatal health issues such as liver problems and impotence. Ask the center what medications they prescribe and why.

4. Does the program include a nutritional component?

Most addicts have very poor nutritional levels and a thorough rehab program must include adequate nutritional support so that the person’s deficiencies are repaired.

5. Does the program teach the patient sufficient life skills to support a sober life?

Addicts develop destructive patterns of thinking and acting during heavy drug abuse. The patient must be taught how to break addictive patterns and regain the ability to act responsibly once he is back to normal life.

6. Will the patient be encouraged to interact with others?

Treatment programs should include fun and sober activities for residents and encourage them to build new relationships.
7. Does your treatment program offer anything for the family?
A good drug and alcohol treatment program will provide support for the whole family and include family therapy sessions and education on how to deal with the patient.

8. Is your drug rehab center licensed and accredited?

Make sure that the facility has all the necessary licenses and accreditation through several different agencies.

9. How much do your programs cost?

Do not fall for some fancy program which charges exorbitant amounts. Ask about the cost upfront and get details about the payment options available.

10. Do you offer treatment for people with dual diagnosis?

Someone diagnosed with substance abuse and mental disorders like anxiety, depression, will need special care and treatment. This will require integrated treatment. But not all drug rehab facilities are properly equipped to manage the needs of such clients. So it becomes necessary to ask the prospective center if it can provide proper care for a full recovery.
