10 Fire Safety Tips for home

If you think that a house fire can never happen to you, then you may be wrong. Anyone can be a victim of a house fire. In the US alone, more than half a million of people become victims of a house fire every year.

If you are a home owner, then you must seek the perfect solution to keep your home safe. It is a well-known and unavoidable fact that a house fire can result in a devastating loss of memories, belongings, and most importantly, loved ones. Here is a list with tips on how to prevent a house fire:

1. Do not leave candles, heaters or anything cooking unattended
2. Make sure to check your electric appliances for malfunctions or loose wires
3. Test your fire alarm from time-to-time. Daylight savings is a great reminder to change the batteries
4. Keep all matches and lighters out of children's reach
5. Have a fire evacuation plan ready for your home and practice it with other household members
6. Make sure all exits in your fire evacuation plan are all clear so you do not become trapped inside during a house fire
7.  Do not dry your clothes in front of a heater
8.  Make sure to check the lint filter in your dryer to prevent a fire. Be sure to empty the lint compartment after every use.
9.  Avoid powering multiple appliances/electronics and don’t plug multiple cords together. 
10. Keep combustible objects at least three feet away from portable heating devices

Have at least two fire evacuations plans for safety reasons;
If there are children or older family members in your home, have a plan to help them evacuate the house, especially if they are immobile
In case your home catches fire, do not attempt to gather any belongings, except for your wallet, cell phone and/or keys, but only if they are on the way to the exit;
Make sure your evacuation plan has a safe meeting spot where all of your family members can meet once you get out of your home safely
