Eid al-Fitr – otherwise known as Sweet Eid – is a three-day celebration of Muslims around the globe as they celebrate the end of the sunrise to sunset session of fasting known as Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr actually means “holiday of breaking the fast.” Food is an indispensable part, of the Eid celebration, as friends and families come together to experience an elaborate and exquisitely prepared feast in each other’s company. But there are also some special foods that really mark the holiday.

Seekh Kebab

Seekh kebab a famous starter dish which is prepared during the Eid. Seekh kebab is a delicious appetizer and people who love spicy food will just fall in love with this preparation. It is cooked with minced chicken and some special spices added to it. These kebabs are further cooked to perfection and then served with green sauce.

 

Biryani

Without biryani, the best moment of Eid is just half-done. This is the main course dish and is considered as one of the delicious dishes which is made with a sweet-smelling blend of rice and meat mainly chicken or mutton. This gratifying dish is cherished by all and is prepared worldwide. This traditional dish has its own individual style of cooking which takes time but gives an astounding taste which is worth the wait. Tajine

Eid al-Fitr is distinguished by intricate and grand, meat dishes are also prepared in several countries on Eid. Tajine is one of those dishes often served in North African countries like Algeria and Morocco. It is a slow-cooked stew cooked with some sort of meat (often beef or lamb), with fruits like plums and apricots or vegetables.

 

Maamoul

This shortbread cookie is essentially eaten in Levantine countries like Lebanon and Syria. There are several varieties of stuffing, usually, pistachios, dates, or walnuts, and they are often coated in sugar powder. Kleicha is a very similar cookie enjoyed in Egypt, Iraq as well as kahk and in Sudan.

 

Sheer Khurma

Sheer khurma is also known as semai in Bangladesh. Actually described as “milk with dates,” this sweet vermicelli dessert is an Eid favorite in Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, and Afghanistan. It’s cooked with vermicelli, sugar, milk, dates and, depending on almonds, pistachios, and raisins.

 

Mutton Kaleji

This preparation is one of the most popular, traditional savory to eat during Eid. Mutton Kaleji is a curry in which fried pieces of meat is put and cooked to perfection. The chief course dish can be served hot with biryani or roti. One can even add olive oil or dry fruits which adds to taste, but this is optional.

 

Laasida

Morocco starts the day with a breakfast of laasida. It is a dish which looks similar to rice pudding but consists of butter, couscous, honey, and seasoning.

 

Moong Dal Ka Halwa

This age-old and traditional sweet dish is normally a time taking dessert. This dish is prepared with khoya, saffron, and almonds. Moong Dal Halwa is usually prepared by the North Indians which takes a lot of time for preparation but is worth the struggles.
