Flutter Perfect: A Beginner's Guide to Applying False Eyelashes

by Ivo Manolov Writing and Link-Building

False eyelashes can take your eye look from every day to dramatic in a snap. But for beginners, the application process can seem intimidating. Fear not, fellow flutterers! With a little practice and these simple steps, you'll be a lash-applying pro in no time.

What You'll Need:

  • False eyelashes (choose a style that suits your desired look - dramatic, natural, etc.)

  • Eyelash applicator (tweezers or lash applicator tool)

  • Eyelash glue

  • Scissors (optional)

  • Mascara (optional)

Step 1: Prep Your Lashes - How to apply eyelashes

  1. Apply eyeshadow and eyeliner: Apply your usual eyeshadow and eyeliner routine. This will create a base for the false lashes to adhere to.

Step 2: Measure and Trim (Optional)

  1. Hold the lash up to your eye: Gently hold the false lash against your eyelid to check the fit. If the lash extends beyond your natural lash line, trim the excess from the outer corner with scissors.

Step 3: Apply the Glue

  1. Squeeze a thin line of glue: Apply a thin line of lash glue along the base of the false eyelash band. You can use the applicator tip that often comes with the glue, or a pointed object like a toothpick.

  2. Let the glue get tacky: Wait 10-30 seconds for the glue to become tacky. This will make it easier to apply the lashes without them slipping around.

Step 4: Apply the Lashes

  1. Use your applicator: Hold the lash with your applicator or tweezers, grabbing it in the center of the band.

  2. Look down slightly: Tilt your head back and look down into a mirror. This will give you a better view of your lash line.

  3. Position and press: Gently place the lash as close to your natural lash line as possible, starting from the center and working outwards towards the inner and outer corners.

  4. Secure the lash: Use your fingers to gently press the lash band onto your eyelid, securing it in place.

Step 5: Final Touches

  1. Let the glue dry completely: Avoid blinking excessively for a few minutes to allow the glue to dry completely.

  2. Apply mascara (optional): If you want a more natural look, apply a thin coat of mascara to blend your natural lashes with the false lashes.

  3. Trim any stray lashes (optional): If there are any individual lashes poking out that look odd, you can carefully trim them with small lash trimmers or nail scissors.

Tips for Success:

  • Practice makes perfect! Don't get discouraged if it takes a few tries to get the hang of applying lashes.

  • Use the right amount of glue: Too much glue can be messy and difficult to remove, while too little glue won't hold the lashes securely.

  • Take your time: Applying lashes requires precision, so don't rush the process.

  • Clean up any mistakes: If you get glue on your eyelid, use a cotton swab dipped in makeup remover to gently remove it.
