The problem isn't the traffic, it's conversions. Make sure you test your campaign free before you throw money at it.

I Quite agree Warren, PPC is a tricky field to play in yet that said it is a place where a lot of marketers do test click thru rates for specific keyword optimized ads a lot of the Gurus and professionals do this to test pre-launch modes.
Patty I do not understand why you refuse to use Google (the worlds largest SE) unless you are trying to focus on lesser used SE's to reduce competitive results prehaps? .

I completely understand the reason in not using google. Its a huge invasion of privacy and a lot of marketers are trying to turn away from them.

The first two PPC companies that popped into my mind were of course the largest of competitors to Google adwords - that of BidVertiser and that of clicksor. However ppc is really not that limited anymore.

Its all in what you are selling as to where you should be using PPC. Despite most people don't think of them as such, facebook and linkedin both offer OUTSTANDING PPC results.... for the RIGHT TYPES of products. Although easy to bypass.... I strongly recommend both of them.

Actually I recommend all 4 of these sources as a replacement to google adwords.

Also although not entirely related - I have recently given up using the Chrome browser and replaced it with a clone called rock. The thing about rock is it is chrome only they removed all the lovely bits of code that spy on people. :)

I also recently replaced using google search in favor of duckduckgo.

Hope all this info helps you :)

Thanks so much for all of your input :) I love the activity in this group! I have done PPC in Google successfully before the big "slap". That really made me angry because online marketers are the ones that helped them grow their business.

Again, thanks so much for the input :)

Cheers!

@ Bruce Its great that you answered Pattys' question with alternatives... yet I still have to sit with Google on this... If you suffered a slap and you lost almost all of your advertising overnight then that was duly needed as there where far too many false statements and links to landing pages that did not match the advert... thank goodness for the clean-up. This saw a massive rise in the already established organic search results and so yep there was a time when cheap irrelevant paid ads would not show. However marketers grow stronger and now know if your going to do PPC then simply do it right..be legit and do not hide anything from the public and if your proud enough in what you promote then make your profile and contactabilty available.

Trev, my reason for staying away from google (and I suspect Patty's as well) is a lot more than just a PPC business model. Google has been coming out with patents on things like checking the temperature of your house, recording background noise, monitoring your tv and adding your tv viewing AND buying decisions to a database to better "target ads"(heavy push for google tv), and a great deal of other things. They will be of the first to undoubtedly be able to tell a person just how effective a tv campaign is. "these people watched and bought this product, who coincidentally all also have purchased and bought these and watched this show, vs the other people who saew your ad and didn't buy". They have incorporated what you search into a database so much so that they have you so hooked in that even if you try to avoid it, you are still tracked. They can with or without your help find all your google accounts, facebook accounts, twitter accounts, youtube account, picture sharing accounts, even things like what you watch on hulu are now being recorded by google.

My fear is not the business model, its in being forever attached to something. Lets say I am one of the unlucky ones who gets involved with some sort of scam.... I run ads.... forever I am branded as a scammer... because google has to much information they never let go of, that information is forever embedded to me. Even if I go remove it all, google cache still exists.

I can't escape google at all. I am aware of this. Its also not google I fear, its some government coming in and forcing they databased be released to tthem.

Because of that, I limit the amount of information with google I share, especially when its something that ties my person to business.

@ Trev, first of all when the "slap" happened it was not by any means a sole source of advertising. That would have been a really bad business model to be following.

It most definitely cleaned up a lot of the "spammy" stuff.
I have no problem with that. I have no problem putting good content out and being legit and not hiding anything from the public. That's why my brand is "Integrity Networker" :-)

I would suggest that if people were to use that type of model of advertising they would be tagged as a scam quickly and it would ruin their reputation.

My biggest concern with Google is as Bruce has mentioned, the amount to tracking they are doing with what everyone is doing online.

Now with that said I do use some of Google's tools such at YouTube and G+. I was using YTube before it was Google's... lol.

Anyway, I was just looking for actual suggestions (thanks Bruce) as an alternate to AdWords.

Love all the input from everyone!

Cheers,
Patty
