My basic advise is to make sure you create your own capture page so you can start to build your list from the beginning. Make sure that each niche you promote has it's own list. Cheers!

My advice for people just getting into affiliate marketing is start with whats easiest. The first thing you want to do is build a list as patty suggested there is no doubt about that, and she is spot on bout creating niche lists also. However when you are just starting out building a list can be hard work and there are a few things you can do to make that easier.

I would recommend your first list being a "marketers list". The reason is, its EASY to target things at marketers. We are everywhere. Safelists, text ad exchanges, banner exchanges, traffic exchanges, etc. These are sites just filled with marketers looking to market something.

To start building a list the easy way, give something to those marketers to get them on a list. For example I use a service called MSLB (email me if you are interested in the link). This is a cheap little business that allows me to build myself a list by recommending top safelists to marketers.

It works because I am able to give marketers free marketing tools and targeting marketers is the easier thing to do.

After you get more fluent with creating lists, you can carry that practice with you to sell other things.

And don't think that what I promote is the only way - I just found a business that works for me and benefits what I do. The truth is you can give away ebooks, you can give away howto video's, you can make two part video's where a person see's part one and must subscribe for part two, there are countless ways to get someone on your list.

But you MUST start by building yourself a list and to do that you need some sort of splash page with a lead capture form on it. I strongly suggest when making this page - you add your face to it for added brand recognition.

I also have lists of free websites that help you do this if you can't design - or I know designers if you want something more custom and professional. Feel free to contact me if you need links.

Hope this helps :)

one thing I wanted to ask Krishnamurthi was are you trying to promote using free methods or are you willing to pay for some services... If your going to do it the totally free way then get accounts with lots of social networking sites and register for a free pinging service. Patty and Bruce offer some positive and well known advice to you and many a marketer but to me they are a little above the basics for a newbie. one golden nugget I give you is you do need to devote time to understanding Niche,Keyword Strategy, and SEO.
Your welcome to message me for a powerful pinging service tool.

I agree with most of the above recommendations. From day one, folks should start building their list. You must have a squeeze/lead capture page with your photo and name. Three or four bullets on what your list will do for people and I always recommend a free gift of some kind for folks who subscribe to your list. I have always used free ebooks that I have bought the rebranding rights.

Since 1999, I have used traffic exchanges to build my lists. traffic exchanges are jam packed with newbies looking for guidance in almost any niche. You can fill those needs.

Now that we know you are looking to start the totally free ways, Here are my thoughts.

First you are starting in the right place being here on APsense.

Second make sure you set up 4 gmail accounts.
1. yourname @ gmail . com that is used for signing up to social sites and paid programs/membership sites
2. yournamecontact @ gmail . com for use when signing up to credit based safelist. Don't use for anything else
3. yournamelist @ gmail . com for use when signing up to credit based safelist. Don't use for anything else. If the safelist only ask for one email address use this one.
4. yournamepayment @ gmail . com for use as your paypal email. Don't use for anything else

Third you really need to pick a product or two to promote as an affiliate. This is the challenge because there are so many affiliate products that don't do anything for you.

Therefore promoting a product or service that give every website owner what they need is the best place to start. What is the one thing they all need? Well that is real visitors(traffic) to their site.

This is an easy thing to accomplish when you start with credit based safelist and social sites. (hint: Traffic is a niche) For a list of the top credit based safelist that are free to join and use message me.

Now what to do with those credit based safelist is the key. You promote the credit based safelist to each other and on the social sites.

What will this do for you is get you downline members in the credit based safelist you are promoting and some of them will upgrade, therefore you make money.

What do you do with that money? You put it back into your marketing by either upgrading in the safelist or purchasing a system to make your promotional efforts easier and will build your list. One system that does that is in my profile.

I can also show you one thing that will make your start a lot less time consuming when you message me.

@Todd a good response although personally I don't get involved with TEs and safelist building so I cant comment on that. Back to Krishnamurthi your Niche is like specialsied Category (helpful if you already have a talent in a particular field) but you do great SEO work with just a niche...you need to start your research and look at Keyword phrases within that niche that are related within the niche. Once you have keywords that you want to use then place your posts on your social networks using those keywords.(but do not use them too often) once or twice is all. Find a pinging tool such as ping-o-matic and hootsuite and send alerts to multiple social networks. Thats all for now..message me for more details if you wish.

Krishnamurthi Balaji This is what happens in marketing and this is why so many people get so lost.

Here is some advice regarding dealing with various forms of advice you will receive in marketing - first decide what marketing method you want to use.

There are three basic forms of marketing for free - there is list building, there is social, and there is SEO.

The advice given here on this post is vastly related to list building. The reason so many people turn to list building over that of SEO and social marketing is that list building is 100% self controlled.

If google closes down tomorrow - all the SEO people are virtually screwed. Yes its very unlikely that will happen - then again ENRON was very unlikely to happen to. Strange things happen in these strange times.

The same is true of social media - sort of. With social media there is always the next great social market. We saw the rise and fall of myspace. We have seen the rise of twitter, facebook, pinterest, google+ and so many others. Social sites come and they go. When they go - so does your ability to communicate with your followers.

However when you build a list - you are self sustaining. It doesn't matter if every website online closes up shop, you still have a list of contacts. You still have email addresses and names (and perhaps phone numbers and addresses depending on the type of list you build).

So you will find a LARGE number of marketers (especially network marketers) look to list building where they can ply by their own rules.

Personally I recommend social marketing. I believe you get the best of all three world with it and its virtually whitehat. If you look to my post titled "0 to 5 in 6" here in the group you will see social plan laid right out for you.

The reason I go social is because after I connect with someone on social networks and interact with them a bit, I can easily get their email address and skype contact information.

I can also use my vast amount of social connections to achieve whitehat SEO. A simple email to a few tens of thousands of people asking them to check out your site and consider adding a link to it from their blog sidebars can do wonders for your SEO - especially when those connections are filled with a number of people you have talked to one on one.

I STRONGLY recommend going social.
