In what can only be described as the worst kept secret in the history of the Internet, Apple finally decided to announce the iPad Mini. Apple’s newest member of the iPad family comes with a smaller 7.9-inch screen, whereas the original iPad had a 9.7 inch screen. The device is a nice step down in size and should add some more portability to the iPad, as well as open doors for it to compete with smaller Android tablets such as the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD.

That being said, Apple kind of missed the sweet spot for pricing on the iPad Mini, at least if they intend to go directly after some of the other 7-inch tablets. With the iPad Mini coming in at a starting price of $329, it sits at a higher price tier than Google, Samsung and Amazon’s tablets.

As you would expect, the iPad Mini comes in white and black. It also comes in Wi-Fi and cellular models. For memory, you can choose from 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. The 7.9-inch screen supports a 1024-by-768 resolution at 163 pixels per inch. The iPad Mini also features a dual-core A5 processor, a 5MP rear-facing camera, and a 1.2MP front-facing camera. Apple says the battery lasts 10 hours on Wi-Fi and nine hours using cellular data to browse the web.
