As a software developer, it is frustrating because many (and I mean many) older Kindle readers are never updated. It is up to the user to know they have to plug their Kindle into the computer and perform a firmware update. The average person has no idea the Kindle even gets updates.

That lack of automatic updating on some of the Kindles means you have to create content in both he older Mobi format and the newer KF8 format. Well, you don’t have to, but it is a good practice, especially if you plan on selling to a wider audience.
