WordPress as your primary web system

Point and Click web management

I have been doing web site development for a good number of years and finding the real power of Wordpress has switched me from doing my own page coding to using WP.

It has totally blown me away how easy it is to setup and manage a WP site, 98% of it is literally point-and-click management. There are two real secrets to using WP:

1) Having a hosting site that is properly configured to support WordPress. Without this, you will struggle trying to get things uploaded and setup. I use 1and1.com, this is not an affiliate link so I get nothing from it. But I have been using them for several years and have been very happy with the product and support.

2) Having the right theme and plugins. Here I use the Semiologic Pro theme www.semiologic.com for the theme and there are a variety of plugins that it comes with and many more that you can use to increase your effectiveness.

Once you have these two components selected, you can install Wordpress in just a few minutes. The configuration from there is totally up to you, as you are developing a web site from that point.

If you have questions about how to use WordPress, which components to select, or any other topics about this great tool, just post them here and we can work thru the issues.

Happy posting,
Roy

I have been building websites the hard way for over 11 years and I agree with you Roy. I use No Support Linux Hosting for $1 a month, since Wordpress needs so little support anyway and a free theme I tweaked myself. So far I haven't had to use my frequent backups to recover from anything, but they are there. The big difference may be that I don't use it to Blog, just to showcase pages.
