How to get traffic for your website?

Hi all,
Getting traffic to one's website or blog is the main objective for any site owner. No visitors to your website means your website is not known to anybody or discovered by anybody. If you wish to earn money (which is the main endeavor of many of us) through your website, you need traffic - not any traffic but targeted traffic.
If your website springs up on the top page (in fact, top 3 positions) search engines for a profitable keyword or key phrase, you have a fair chance of success. But this is the toughest part - getting top search engine rank. One needs to know a lot about SEO to do that.
The other ways are to:
1. Start a PPC campaign
2. Join a lot of social media sites and actively participate
3. Write articles regularly and in plenty
