Whether it is convenient to read ebooks on your iPhone is a question
that doesn?t have a clear answer (some iPhone users love to do it, while
others are dead against), although reading them on your iPad certainly
makes a lot of sense.



Sadly the iBooks app is missing support for a lot of popular eBook
formats. For example it cannot read PDF, .TXT and .RTF files, which make
up the majority of eBooks you could find online
(especially if you download them for free). So what do you do if you
have a large collection of eBooks in various formats? How will you be
able to read them on your idevice?



Thankfully there is a program for that! Calibre is a free to download
tool for Windows and Mac computers that allows you to easily switch
eBooks between different formats with only a couple of clicks.







The amount of ebook formats that Calibre supports will certainly
surprise you. It supports files with the following extensions: ePub (the
format that the iPhone and iPad can read), LRF, MOBI, TXT, HTM, RTF,
LIT, PDF, SNB, TPZ, FB2, PDB and more! And it even has a batch mode, so
you can convert thousands of eBook files at the same time.



The conversion process itself is very straightforward: inside Calibre
you select the eBook you want to convert into an iPhone eBook, select
the required options (the program is highly customizable: you can
replace anything you want, change the appearance as well as the meta
data, add a cover page and much more), specify the output format (ePub
in case of idevices) and then save the newly created
iPhone/iPad-compatible eBook (you can even move it to your mobile device
directly through Calibre too).







And Calibre is not only meant for idevices: it will be useful for
owners of the Kindle and other book readers as well as to owners of
personal computers as it also has special settings for them. And it will
even offer you a chance to make an eBook from scratch or by using data
from a website (the latter is the first time that we see this option
offered anywhere, let alone in a freeware tool).
