Unfortunately, it had no success in the US.

It is translated in French, among other languages, that's why I know about it.

Perry Rhodan's publishing history began in 1961. One 50-page novella  week. The original authors had plans for 50 novellas.

It has never stopped coming out since then.

It starts simply enough. Perry Rhodan goes to the moon as a US astronaut. He discovers a spaceship with 2 occupants. They come from the planet Arkonid.

When Perry Rhodan goes back to earth, he uses the ultra-advanced technology to establish a new nation that will take control of the Earth to establish peace. He succeeds with ease. No war. The superpowers have no choice but to surrender.

After that, Perry Rhodan meets new enemies from outer space, he finds a device that makes him immortal.

It's space opera, plain and simple.

Don't expect high quality writing, awesome character development.

No, it's just plain fun for space opera fans like me.

After the first 50 novellas in the series, the control was given to a team of writers. They plan the series hundreds of novellas in advance.

In French, the current novels are translations from the novellas published in the 70s. I mean, they are published once every 2 months, what can I say ?

I gotta learn German so that when my IM endeavors make me a free man, I will have time to read the story from start to finish. :D
