NEW DELHI: The government has finally rectified one of the biggest 'mistakes' of Air India-Indian Airlines' merger. The merged entity was given a rather unimaginative name, National Aviation Company of India Ltd ( NACIL ).

Now, the airline has reverted to its good old name, Air India, and adopted a new tagline - "we care, we connect." NACIL was incorporated under the Companies Act 1956 on March 30, 2007, and this name lasted exactly three-and-a-half years before the Maharaja got his original name back.

"NACIL could never get the acceptance or recognition that Air India has commanded for decades. Once upon a time, AI used to be one of the best airlines in the world and that name still rings a bell globally among travellers ," said a senior official.
