Buddha Air starts Paro flights

KATHMANDU, Aug 23: After 13 successful years in domestic aviation, Budhha Air formally spread its wing to international skies on Monday by operating its first commercial flight to Paro. Buddha Air is the first international airline to operate flights to Bhutan.
The Druk Kingdom permitted Buddha Air to operate flights to and from Paro as a part of its bid to attract more international tourists. About 20 percent of the total tourists fly to Bhutan from Kathmandu.
?We hope that our international flights will make some contribution to national economy,? said Birendra Bahadur Basnet, the managing director of Budhha Air, in a statement issued on Monday.
Buddha Air will initially fly four times a week to Paro, using 18-seater Beechcraft 1900D aircraft.
?We will adjust our flight frequency as per the need after the renewal of existing Air Service Agreement (ASA) between the two countries,? Basnet added. He further added that they had plans to extend services to Bagdorga of India from Paro.
?We will also start flights to Indian cities like Kolkata, Patna, Lucknow and Varanasi within this year,? he explained.
The airline has fixed one way fare for Paro at $228 per person for foreigners and $60 for Nepalis, Indians and Bhutanese.
