If you are marketing on the internet you must have an opt in list. This allows visitors who go to your site to leave their name, email address and sometimes phone number for more information about what you are offering.

If you leave out this step, you are leaving huge percentage of potential sales behind. Most people don't buy immediately, and once they leave your site you have lost that prospect. The other reason is because the visitor simply doesn't know you.

Having an opt in page with autoresponder allows you to build a relationship with that person you otherwise would not have.

So how do you build your list as quickly as possible? Here are some suggestions.

1. Have your own personal web site, and don't just use a company replicated web site. You should make your site with your prospect in mind. Who is your target audience? What can I offer them? Have a headline that will capture your target audience's attention right away. Having your own web site also allows you to upload your picture, and tell the reader about yourself. Generally you don't have that option with a company site. And it is crucial to your success that the prospect get to know you first.

2. Offer them a free gift for giving you their information. This could be an ebook, or article, or anything you wish that would be appealing to your prospects, and not cost them anything. Anything of value to your reader will help increase the percentage of sign ups to visitors on your site.

3. Determine who your target market is an focus your advertising on that. Ezines are one good method for this. There are Ezines on dozens of subjects so it is easy to determine the interests of the majority of their subscribers. If you are marketing a health product, there are many health ezines, likewise there are many on travel for marketers in travel businesses to advertise to. Your ads will be most effective if you pay for the top sponsor ad or a solo ad. These cost more but are certainly seen by many more people. And the more targeted the list the more opt ins you are going to receive.

4. Also be sure to have a privacy policy and post it on your site. Everyone wants to be assured if they give you their email address that they won't be subjected to spam. Assure them that their email will not be shared with anyone.

The above tips will help you build your list quickly, and increase your sales and income.

thanks Joanne,

that is some good info. For some reason I can't bring myself to try and build my own opt-in list other than thru free to join opportunities and then build networking relationships with them that way.

I'll have to reconsider it!

Hi Beth!

It's just hard to compete these days with so many free web sites given by companies. HAving an opt in page allows the prospect to get to know something about you, and with an opt in you can build a relationship with them you otherwise could not. So that is the advantage.

I know it takes some time and some skill. I'm not savvy at building web sites! That is one of the reasons I love Squidoo. That one really is quite easy.

I think I posted elsewhere here about Squidoo, if not will start a new thread about it.
