THIS GROUP ONCE IT REACH'S 100 MEMBERS WILL BE CLOSED..

One of the main reasons l decided to create this group, l was searching the web, l hardly found any decent information or groups related to the Automotive sector.  I graduated in computer science for no apparent reason back in the early 80's during the rescission, when interest rates where in around the high teens low twenties.  Incredible as it was people still bought vehicles, houses and other high ticket items. How it was, jobs where hard to found, as l graduated, l could not found any jobs in the field that l had studied for.  Had a diploma, large students loan and no job.

I was working at the time at a large General Motors Dealership, part time as l was attending school. So l decided that l would give sales a try, since it looked easy and l had heard the sales staff made an above average living.  So sales it was, commission to boot, no salary, no pay advances, strictly commissions, wow l was scared.  Training was you reviewed all the information about the vehicles your where going to sell, remember General Motors had something like 32 different models, with all types of different features.  Slowly l read all l could get my hands on, but had zero sales training, other then what l picked up from the older sales staff, who kept saying you will not last until Christmas.

So l decide to go to the library and read as many books as l could on sales, remember back then, we had no WWW at our finger tips as we do today.  So l started to learn as much as l could, slowly l got confidence in my ability and started to sell the way l wanted and expect to be treated and sold as a customer.  Read that in one of the many books l read, to this day l never forgotten them words.  Great l know had a foundation to work with, so l used every sales tip that l approval of and mastered one by one. Listening was the key to every sale, remember and using their names was the best sales approach you could ever learn or master.

As time progressed, l got better and my sales started to increase month to month to the point l was in the top 5 out of 28 on the sales floor.  I did all l could do prospect, phone calls, direct mailing yes with a stamp follow up calls, took manual notes on all of my calls and clients. I took great pride in filling out them client cards l developed and used a system that kept me well organized as well as on top of my learning curve.  The other sales reps started talking about me, saying things that have no need to be shared on here, but we all get the picture.

I learned from all of there mistakes, how they treated loyal and repeat customers and the names they called them.  This really puzzles me to this day, why do they do that.  I kept saying to myself, l will never do that to any of my customers.  All l have to do is be better then they are and l will have customers for life, which in the end l developed relationships with most of my clients and to this day still service some of them.

Sales is an art, would you buy anything from someone you did not like.  The answer is pretty simple no you would not, why would you spend your hard earned money, provide a sales person with a commission when he or she didn't treat you the way you expected to be treated.  The actual sales takes place after they take delivery of the vehicle they purchased from you. How do you follow them up and provided them with additional information they may or may not need?  Not many will do that but l do know one thing, the ones that follow these steps, are selling the same amount they where selling in the good times.

Let's Review some of the situation you may have encounter in the past?

-So as a consumer what was your biggest disappointment about the last vehicle you purchase?

-Did your sales person live up to your expectation and provide you with the details you need to know?
-Did you have any unexpected surprise when you picked up your new vehicle?
-Did he or she forget to mention an important part of vehicle you bought like it was in an accident?

-Where all conditions disclosed to you before you bought the vehicle or after you bought the vehicle?

-Would you buy another vehicle from that dealership or salesperson/
-How would you rate your experience with the sales person and dealership on scale of one to ten?

-One being the worse and ten being the best!
I do appreciate your time and do hope you enjoyed this article and hope you come back and read more about this topic.

Regards,
Joseph F.

Very informative article. I had to share this bit.... I would want to be treated with respect just as I would treat you with the respect as well. People like to hear their names many times with the fact that you took the time to remember their name. People notice things like this and will be more apt to do business with someone who shows concern for their situation. Finding a need by listening and then filling that need speaks volumes. It all goes back to KNOW, LIKE and TRUST.
