What is Software?

What is Software?

Everyone has heard of the word software in connection with their computer. Not everyone has already used software and may be aware of it. So what exactly is the software? The software initially corresponds to the hardware. You need both to start and run your computer.

Hardware is the component of the computer you can touch. This includes, for example, the monitor or keyboard, but also the graphics card inside the computer. The software is the non-physical part of the computer. So the parts you can't touch.

The software determines the hardware and what it has to do. A Windows version, for example, is required to properly start the computer. To write an experiment with Word, you need a version of Microsoft Office. These are software examples. Check out the various Microsoft software here.

You can start the hardware using the software installed on the computer. Without software, there is no way to use hardware.

So the software can be compared with the human brain. It decides what the body will do. Hardware will be the body in the sense controlled by the software.

Why is a firmware update important?

As described, the software controls our computer, and with the help of these programs, we do some things on the computer. These programs must be always up to date.

But why should you always keep the software (s) up to date?

First of all, it should be said that the updated software is state of the art and therefore should normally work faster and more effectively than before.

Also, most programs get new features through an update and therefore can be used in a wider variety. For example, there are better options to present your presentations in the latest version of Office.

The latest version of the graphics card driver can help you play certain games smoothly or run the visualization software smoothly. Another point for the importance of existing software is a security risk.

Old software can be infected more easily by computer viruses and cause problems. Current versions are often better protected due to technical progress as they are tuned to the latest viruses and malware.

Old software is no longer supported by the manufacturer with updates that increase the risk of viruses. While updating programs is often annoying, you should always install updates to keep your system up to date.
