There are reviews offered by apsense. There are reviews offered by linkedin. There are yelp reviews. There is worthreferral.

There all all sorts of types of reviews and review sites, how do you go about getting reviews?

On ApSense I just get them when I have helped someone out. Over time it builds up.

Now on other platforms I pretty much ask for reviews and testimonials when I have exchanged my time and value to help someone with a problem. Sometimes I just get them without asking. I believe there is nothing wrong asking for honest reviews when I give my time and experience in exchange.

I have not used yelp and would be interested to hear what someone that has used Yelp thinks.

Well considering I am somewhat of a pro on this topic with over 75 apsense reviews and over 30 linkedin reviews I thought I would chime in and answer my own question.

First of all, never blindly send review requests. It works, but makes your reviews look like crap - and on the higher quality review sites, you can't remove reviews. There is nothing worse than getting a review like "its nice to meet you and I wish you the best of success" and believe me I have had those kind of reviews. NEVER blindly ask for a review.

Equally never promise to swap reviews. It takes away from the quality of YOUR reviews. Believe it or not, reviews are an extension of everything else you do. Its part of your personal branding. When you leave a review, it should be because you fully believe what you are saying. This is why I have reviewed so few, yet still have so many reviews.

So there are two times I find you can ask for reviews. First ALWAYS ask for a review from anyone hat purchases from you. If someone spends money with you, you want to follow up with them, ensure their product or service is satisfactory, engage them in conversation and then ask them if they have time to leave a review. If you are not going to follow up and simply add it as an afterthought to the purchase, you will never get quality reviews.

The other time to ask for reviews, is when you have worked hand in hand with someone. I frequently work with other marketers. I may not spend money with them and they may not spend money with me but I still get a sense of the type of marketer they are, they types of businesses they join, what their talents are, etc. and them of me. Asking people who you work with for reviews ALWAYS works.

The fact is it doesn't matter if you are looking for reviews on apsense, linkedin, google places, yelp, or anywhere else. Ask those you interact with and never ask blindly just because you conneccted with someone.

Thats my two cents on the topic, and so far, it works well for me.
