Great news for your pets on the recall of food

by Margaret Elmendorf
Margaret Elmendorf Senior
After the recent pet food recall, senetors in Washingotn decided to take action to prevent future problems. On May 2, the Senate approved a bill authored by Richard Durbin(D.Il.) that would require uniform federal standards for labeling pet food ingredients.

The measure also would creat a contaminated foods registry so that
information about recalled food would be dispensed easily from a single source.

Currently, the information on pet food labels is voluntary and varies by state and manufacturer. The bill moves to the House of Representatives and then to the President to be signed into law.

Though this measure would not have prevented trhe problems caused by the pet food recall, it recognizes the need for better regulation of the pet food industry.
