How to SMILE ????

oh, you mean how to smile....

ok, here's what you need to know.

It's easy for most small children and young people to grin and smile and laugh... and then as we get older some of us realize that we're not the sunshine smile all the time types! or life runs you over and you forget how to smile for awhile?

ok... remember what i wrote while I tell you this part! How many of us have heard this before? it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile?

I swear this isn't true! I have to work on my smile! I do smile exercises! if you don't use it you loose it! ... so when you have a private moment... it's good to start when you're in front of the mirror! practice tipping up the corners of your mouth. it'll actually feel like crunches if you do it often enough... and lift your eyebrows in reps of 10, 20 or more... you won't get wrinkles... you'll build muscles that holds your face in place! you'll see an improvement if you've started to have puffy heavy eye lids and that makes for a happier countenance!!!

I started doing this after being in a car wreck that cut my cheek and severed the nerves on the left side of my face... the doctors were amazed that I could move those muscles at all after the stitches came out etc... but my mouth was downturned on that left side and I had a lop sided smile! so I started doing smile exercises...

Did the doctors tell me this? no, of course not. they prefer surgery etc...

But I remember my grandmother doing an odd face lifting exercise.... so I gave it a try!

also... lay down ...either when you're in bed or just to relax... so your head is back and comfortable and smile so big and hold it for as long as you can...

if you're feeling blue... it may take a few days or even a few weeks but before you know it... you're going to smile for real! There's something contagious about smiling...

but

you have to tone up your smile muscles!

now, what ever you do, don't laugh at my secret!!!!
Beth

ps... everyone involved in the car wreck i mentioned survived... in case you were wondering... some had more broken bones than others! But if the drunk driver hadn't hit us... he was coming across the road at an angle... he would have gone off this high bridge that spanned a ravine up in the mountains ... kind of county road... so, my car was totalled but it saved his life and we survived!!! what ya gonna do?

Beth!!!!!

You are great! Living proof that smiling and practicing to smile, especially when it is difficult, is vital! Your courage and innovation are an inspiration for us all! You are a smile generator - thank you for adding a smile to my day!

It is unfortunate though that most doctors today don't choose to let us know the simple things that can be done for own good. It is though partly our own faults because we have become a society looking for the "quick fix" a nip tuck here a little pill there.

We need to also take responsibility for our own health. Ask the right questions, become more informed about our conditions, take all options into consideration in order to make informed decisions, and not be afraid to do what it takes to look and feel better today. This means choices: one type of food over another, a walk up or down the stairs rather than an elevator, wallowing in sickness or getting up and trying to feel better.

Beth, you chose to exercise, "a road less taken", and that has made all the difference. Thanks for sharing...
