First you must give the search engine what they need. Before you create your site go out and research for keywords that will drive people to your site. This is the process that you will want to show up in the search engine on your site. A lot of time people just guess their keywords.

Don't guess, do your homework first. Lets say you have a site name visual Basic. Start out with visual basic teacher, go to Excell and type in visual basic teacher, visual basic training, visual basic program, visual basic certification. Go to http://www.wordtracker.com and down load a copy. It's an excellent way to analyze those keywords. Wordtracker show you the supply and demand on a topic.

You will want to find keywords that have high demand and low supply.

Go to keyword universe, on the right side into popularity search and put your list of keywords then press process. You will see the count, predict and dig of those keywords.

If you are not researching your keywords you are flying blind
You want keywords that best turn to sales.

Do not use general keywords because they drive too general a traffic and no sales. So settle for smaller keywords that generate both traffic and sales. You can also use wordtracker and Yahoo search marketing's keyword finder to find the best keywords.

When you create a page set it up with your discription in mind(put the keywords of the page discription in your header, title discription and etc.)
keep current with the latest techniques and pay attention to your SEO Tools.
