Jesse Cottle is a former marine who lost both of his legs after stepping on an IED (a homemade bomb referred to as an improvised explosive device) when in the military in Afghanistan in 2009. During his long recovery, he met Kelly, now his wife, at a swim meet in San Diego. She fell in love with Jesse, despite his physical difficulties.
