The Samsung Galaxy A7 is a large-screen Android smartphone that look suspiciously like an iPhone, and it replaces last year’s Samsung Galaxy Alpha.
This is a big device – bigger even than the Samsung Galaxy S5 – with a 5.5″ 720 x 1280 pixel display, compared with the 5.1″ 1440 x 2560 one on the S5. Although the A7 weighs nearly the same as the S5, the footprint is 10% bigger, although at just 6.3mm thick the A7 is about 25% thinner.

Depending on whether you want the single-SIM or dual-SIM versions, the processor is either an octa-core 1.8GHz/1.3GHz or 1.5GHz/1.0GHz version respectively. Inside is 2GB of RAM with 16GB of flash storage plus a microSD slot.

On the back is a 13 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture, plus there is a 5 megapixel one on the front. Inside is a 2600 mAh battery, and the Samsung Galaxy A7 comes with all the usual Samsung Android smartphone features. The Galaxy A7 supports NFC and LTE, runs Android 4.4 and comes in white, black or gold colour schemes.
The Galaxy A7 finds itself topping of a range of unremarkable “A” series devices, including the smaller A5 and A3 devices and standing alongside the non-LTE Samsung Galaxy E7. It isn’t quite clear which markets it will be available in, when it will be available or how much it will cost, but as it seems to be a replacement for the Galaxy Alpha then we would expect it to be in similar markets at a little less than the Galaxy S5 sometime during Q1 2015.
