Yes, it's true.  My friend Marsha from Kansas City in darkest Missouri thinks she is a Polar Bear!

She does this every year!  There is nothing we can do to stop her.

The reason she has this problem is that every year in early February she takes part in the Polar Bear Plunge to raise money for the Special Olympics Fund.

She and about 300 other other nuts brave the freezing water of the Longview Lake in Kansas City, MO and raise money through sponsorship.  This odd part about it is that they ENJOY it.  They all get dressed up in fancy dress to do the jump.  Last year they had to break through 4 inches of ice to get i! I hope they all have good medical insurance.

Special Olympics Missouri was founded in 1971. What began as a track meet with a few hundred disabled athletes has grown to serve more than 14,000 athletes with 154 competitions annually. They rely solely on donations from generous individuals and businesses to provide world-class experiences for the athletes.

Please be a fan by supporting this special event. I have done so already - anything rather  than jump!

Check out Marsha's page by clicking on the Polar Bear.   We can all help!!  Even if it is only one dollar!  Last year they raised over 10,000 dollars just from sponsorships from people like us.

Of polar bears. As the water rises, their prospects fall.

By Dr. Jeffrey LantAuthor's program note.  What music is appropriate for the undoubted decline and possible demise of one of the grandest creatures on earth -- Ursus maritimus -- the polar bear? I have selected Edvard Grieg's 1867 masterpiece  "From the hall of the mountain king", for this...
