A conference on fostering international cooperation in the struggle with cybercrime in the cyberspace will open in Strasbourg on Monday. The conference is held at the initiative of the Council of Europe.

The agenda of the two-day forum envisages the exposure of hew threats to countries and its citizens coming from cybercrime, growing effectiveness of the legislation in the counteraction to the cybercrime, expansion of international cooperation and partnership between state and private sectors.

The conference is also aimed at inciting the largest number of states to sign the Council of Europe’s Convention on Cybercrime and the Additional Protocol to the convention introducing criminal responsibility for acts of racism and xenophobia, which are committed by means of computer systems.

The Russian delegation will take part in the conference. Russian is one of three working languages of the forum.

Experts believe that criminals are looking more and more actively for vulnerable places in computer networks and data processing systems. Computer technologies are used more and more frequently for the distribution of pornography, smuggling of weapons, drugs and trade in people, as well as for coordinated efforts of terrorist groups.
