It is not.

You don't see “black” colour. Black is the absence of light or absence of an objects reflection of light in the visible spectrum.

An object appearing black indicates its absorbing all possible radiation in the visible light spectrum, hence not reflecting any in the “visible” part of the Electromagnetic spectrum. You tell black when you can't see anything, literally.

If black color wouldn´t be visible, you wouldn´t see it and also never recognized it as a color, black color. When you want to compare the black color with something physical as some people do, have in mind that nothing doesn´t and will never exist. Nothing comes only from human´s mind or his almighty imagination. The world of energy is made from the dark and light - like Universe. 80 percent of the dark and less than 20 percent of the light. The most interesting is that light is coming from or is made from the dark. The light is everywhere even there where nobody sees it. This is very close to Nikola Tesla´s words and knowledge.

We don't see black shading. Dark is the nonappearance of light or nonattendance of an items impression of light in the unmistakable range.

A protest seeming dark demonstrates its engrossing all conceivable radiation in the unmistakable light range, consequently not mirroring any in the "noticeable" some portion of the Electromagnetic range. You tell dark when you can't see anything, truly.
