The Different Types Of Exterior
Cleaning
There's more than one
way to get the exterior surfaces of your home clean. While you may think that
pressure washing, power washing, and soft washing are all the same thing, you
would be wrong. These all use different methods to clean and aren't as
interchangeable as you may think.
Pressure Wash
Pressure washing is
perhaps the most commonly seen type of exterior cleaning using water. Pressure
washing can be performed with electric or gas-powered machinery. It can be
higher strength using gas, or more convenient with electricity. Water can also
be sourced from a hose or from a holding tank. Most pressure washing companies
use gas equipment paired with a tank of water they bring to each job site; this
is extremely convenient and requires no additional resources from the customer.
It also can be performed just about anywhere—because there are no limitations
as to where it can go.
However, there is a
downside to pressure washing. Because it uses shear force, it isn't meant for
every type of surface. Most companies will use pressure washing and
hard-to-reach areas and those that won't be damaged. Likely places you'll see
pressure washing performed include garage flooring, concrete, driveways, patio
pavers, and sometimes decks. Pressure washing can also be used to clean
surfaces like inground pool decks and walls.
Power Wash
Power washing is a term
used in the northeast United States about pressure washing. It’s a regional
term used. From Maryland through Maine, more people call it power washing than
pressure washing.
Soft Wash
A low-pressure system of
exterior cleaning, the soft wash is an industry-leading choice for many
cleaning jobs. Soft wash doesn't just use gentle water pressure; it also
implements a biodegradable detergent. These two elements create an ideal
cleansing platform that can take on stubborn stains, as well as contaminants.
Most power washing companies will implement this technology on surfaces riddled
with algae, mold, and fungus. The reason being is it kills bacteria and fungal
growth, including mold spores. Highly effective, soft washing these areas also
generates longer-lasting results.
Soft washing can be used
on a variety of surfaces. Most house washing companies will choose this method for
siding and roofs primarily. Any area that might be sensitive to high water
pressure could benefit from this type of cleaning solution.
