What Is Indian Incense Made of?

Incense sticks are high in demand and several companies across the country make a wide range of incense sticks for customers across the world. A wide range of Indian incense sticks are made using different materials. Therefore, when it comes to the materials used in making incense sticks, some of the materials remain constant while some keep changing. 


Some ingredients change as per the fragrance requirements. For example, in a sandalwood incense stick, sandalwood would be used and if the manufacturer is making a rose incense stick, then automatically, rose would be sued instead of sandalwood to impart the fragrance.

Raw Materials Used To Make Indian Incense Sticks in India

Incense sticks or Agarbatti, just like any other product, are made using a wide range of raw materials. Some of the raw materials that are used to make incense sticks are constant or mostly similar everywhere, whereas, some are different. Indian incense sticks are made using a stick, which is mostly a "punk sticks". However, that is not it; the stick is being fragrances using the best quality fragrance oils. Therefore, the quality of the stick used sets the tone of the Agarbatti. The basic quality of the stick has to be up to the mark, and then only the stick would be able to sustain the additional fragrances etc.

Natural and Artificial Materials

Many Indian incense sticks contain only natural material. While, there are some that contain both natural and artificial materials as well. Although, most of the components of most of the incense sticks are natural only. Some of the basic sticks are made using bamboo. And, the upper most part of the incense stick is sheathed with a certain paste. The paste is made with sawdust that is procured from the machilus wood. It is a category of a hardwood. The sawdust is extremely absorbent. And, the coating is done basically to help the stick retain the fragrance. Some of the Indian incense sticks may contain charcoal as well. Some of the incense stick manufacturers even use charcoal to make the absorbent punk.

Material Used To Impart Fragrances

Other than the basic stick, what makes incense sticks what they are is the fragrance they impart. These sticks contain fragrant oils which are derived from the natural resources. The fragrant oils which are sued to make the incense sticks are mostly derived from the aromatic plants or flowers. Sometimes, the aroma from woods, like sandalwood is also derived and imparted in the sandalwood sticks. While, in some cases, the Indian incense sticks are made using artificial fragrance or perfumes as well. However, mostly, the customers prefer naturally fragrant incense sticks.

The making of incense sticks requires a series of steps and one of the key steps is to collect everything that is needed to make the incense sticks. Thus, the incense stick manufacturers have to first identify the products that they need to make the sticks and then only they can go ahead and make the sticks.
