What are Some Tips For Travelling With a Low Cost Airline?

by Steve Johnson Travel Blogger

The rise of budget airlines has incited the traveling spirit in many people. Travel has now become accessible than ever before. These budget airlines have made flying cheap for both domestic and international flyers encouraging flyers to head off to their dream location.

The reason behind these airlines being able to offer reasonable fares is that they don’t provide passengers with attractive and additional facilities like food, entertainment, and complimentary drinks. These flights, at times, also fly from ‘obscure’ airports and as a result, have to pay lower airport taxes than any other cities main airport. This causes the company to pay less overhead and thus offers cheaper fares for passengers. While most of these budget airlines are luring passengers to fly with their unbelievably low flight prices, the question might arise in our mind that is the cheap flight worth the price we pay?

Here are thus, few things that one must keep in mind before flying with budget airlines and avoiding any unpleasant surprises.

Check the weight of your check-in and onboard luggage

You must always weigh your bags before leaving for the airport as these low-cost airlines strictly follow the rules of the fare and might charge you extra money for your extra luggage.

Search your flight in incognito mode

Always search your flight in incognito mode in your web browser as both airlines and flights tend to aggregate sites and track what you search by using cookies on their site. Thus, the next time you search the same flight, it might show you an increased price. The last time I was booking my JetBlue flight, a particular site had shown a hiked price the second time I was searching. Then I called at Jetblue phone number and availed their help to book my tickets.

Check where your airport is located

You must also check the location of your airport before booking a low-budget flight. The reason behind low-cost carriers offering such cheap fares is that they fly into secondary airports due to lower airport tax.

Double-check for automatic add-ons

Book your tickets slowly and carefully, and make sure to unselect anything you don’t want to pay for as airlines often tend to add-on things like seat selection and insurance that adds up your flight fare.

Pack your own food

Budget airlines do not provide meals on the ticket price. So, it is better to bring your own food to cut down the cost of buying it from the airlines.

Print your boarding pass before traveling

Many low-cost airlines will charge to print your boarding pass,  in case of any digital failure. Therefore, you must always keep a printed copy of your boarding pass.

Therefore, the next time you book a low-cost airline, do keep in mind the above tips or techniques.
